Who hasn't heard this phrase before: Protect yourself. This statement particularly resonates with LGBTQIA+ individuals due to the heartbreaking period the community went through in the 80s and 90s. Indeed, HIV began to wreak havoc and take its toll on the community. Today, it seems obvious to all of us to take precautions. We are also fortunate to live in an era where living with this virus is possible. Thus, to connect the past to the present, doing this photoshoot seemed like an obvious choice. Boots rooted in the ground, anchored in reality and the present moment, almost impossible to remove. Aggressive spikes, evoking those of the virus. And a naked body, or almost, partially consumed or protected. As the younger generation, our duty is to not forget the struggles that preceded us to ensure the safety in which we live today. We must also inform that this virus is no longer as debilitating as it once was and that any person living with HIV is neither guilty, nor dangerous, and even less contagious. The important thing will always be to stay informed, to respect, to protect oneself, and to protect one's partners.
